After 11 years of delighting taste buds with their handcrafted donuts, sisters Loren and Erin Clarke are hanging up the aprons on their Lady Hester stall at Salamanca Market.

The pair shared the “bittersweet” news online this week, confirming their deep fryers will run for the last time this weekend.

“… To every person who has bought a donut and supported our many and varied donut endeavours over the past 11 years – thank you, we appreciate every one of you,” they wrote in a heartfelt farewell.

The donut journey began at Hobart’s Farm Gate Market before expanding to other markets and events across Tasmania.

In 2020, Lady Hester briefly operated a bakery in Battery Point before returning to their market roots two years later.

“There are so many highlights, it’s impossible to choose,” the Clarkes said, reflecting on a decade-plus adventure during which they estimate making “thousands and thousands of donuts”.

Their thank-you post also gave a special nod to their mum, who once carried a donut delivery and a pram up Battery Point’s famously steep Kelly’s Steps for Dark Mofo’s Winter Feast.

Donut lovers have one last chance to get their fix this Saturday before the sisters shut up shop.

“You can still find Erin and I at Salamanca Market on Saturdays slinging cookies at Thick as Thieves Cookies,” they wrote.
