Tasmanian firefighters have paid tribute to a fallen Queensland firie who lost her life while battling a large factory fire in Slacks Creek, south of Brisbane.
Izabella Nash, an experienced firefighter, died in hospital overnight after sustaining critical injuries, while Lia Drew, a fellow firefighter, remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The Midway Point Sorell Fire Service said they were ‘deeply shocked and saddened’ to learn that one of their own had died while fighting the significant fire.
“Emergency workers serve our community bravely, selflessly every day. We all expect to return home to our families,” a spokesperson for the brigade said.

The Tasmania Fire Service also paid tribute to the family, loved ones and colleagues of Nash.
“We are sending strength to the second Queensland firefighter who remains in hospital and the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services – QFES family at this difficult time,” they said.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze, with police declaring the area a crime scene.
Workplace Health and Safety officers are also investigating the incident and business owners and witnesses in the surrounding area are being interviewed.
