A Tasmanian man has been sentenced after ‘losing his cool’ and trashing a service station because his card declined while he was trying to pay for fuel.
Facing the Magistrates Court in Launceston last week, 25-year-old Andrew Dillon Smith admitted to the ‘erratic and aggressive’ incident at the BP Newnham service station on July 23.
The court heard how Smith was arrested after he upturned multiple bins inside the station and refused to calm down when asked by officers.
Smith acknowledged having a heated argument with the cashier and admitted to elbowing the glass sliding door on his way out.
Smith’s defense claimed that he had a difficult upbringing with an alcoholic and violent father and had struggled with drug and alcohol abuse.
The magistrate convicted Smith, fined him $800 and ordered him to pay additional costs and levies of $169.52.
