Squadron Leader Meaghan Suttor, who grew up in Kingston and Blackmans Bay in Tasmania, has been appointed as the Executive Officer of 29 (City of Hobart) Squadron.
The squadron, based in her hometown, is responsible for the welfare of ADF personnel who deploy to Antarctica as part of Operation Southern Discovery.
Suttor, who attended Calvin Christian School in Tasmania, enlisted in the Air Force as a personnel capability officer after completing year 12.

Throughout her extensive career, she has had the opportunity to participate in diverse opportunities, including raising flags at the Sydney Olympics, deploying overseas, and delivering initial employment training to the Air Force’s human resource workforce.
“My highlights to date include raising flags at the Sydney Olympics, deploying overseas and delivering initial employment training to Air Force’s human resource workforce,” said Squadron Leader Suttor.
“Coming back to Tasmania with my family while serving in the Air Force and contributing to my local community has been very rewarding.”
Operation Southern Discovery, established in July 2016, is the ADF’s contribution to the Australian Antarctic Program.
In her role as executive officer, Squadron Leader Suttor is responsible for ensuring the squadron runs smoothly, with aviators fit, trained and resourced properly for their duties.
“The nature of a military job means our people are often away for extended periods of time, in remote places with limited means of communication – and Antarctica is certainly about as remote as it gets,” she said.

“Ensuring our people and their families are supported while they are away is one of the best ways we can look after our greatest assets and one of the most important parts of my role here in Hobart.”
