A Tasmanian mother and her daughter have had their cars seized after they were caught racing each other at 158km/h on the Midland Highway this morning.
The 49-year-old woman and ‘terrible role model’ was driving north alongside the 17-year-old P-plater when they were stopped at Conara around 9:45am Saturday.
Police say the 17-year-old girl behind the wheel of a Nissan Skyline was breaking multiple license conditions at the time, including exceeding the maximum P1 speed limit of 100km/h.
The teenager also had 3 young passengers aged between 16 and 17-years-old in her car when she was stopped.

Police have disqualified both for at least 4 months and fined each $1,121.25 and 6 demerit points.
Sergeant Benjamin Kromkamp said “not only was the high speed itself dangerous, but combining it with P1 driver inexperience – the results could have been fatal”.

He added that while three police vehicles were stopped on the roadside with their emergency lights activated, 14 dangerous drivers were detected travelling past them at excessive speed.
“All drivers received infringement notice for ‘Fail to slow to safe stopping speed when approaching police/emergency/assistance/escort vehicle displaying flashing light or sounding alarm’ which attracts 3 demerit points and a fine of $341.25,” he said.
“Remember to always slow down when approaching emergency vehicles which are displaying lights or sounding an alarm and drive at a speed able to stop safely.”
“Tasmania Police and the community know that speeding is a major contributor towards fatal and serious crashes on our roads.”
“To keep all road users safe, Tasmania Police will continue to hold unsafe drivers to account including the seizure of vehicles and disqualification of licences.
“Remember, police can be anywhere, anytime, so slow down and get to your destination safely”.
