A Tasmanian Police officer on holiday with her family in the Northern Territory has helped save a man who was attacked by a crocodile today.

North-West Detective Taneka Starr said she was swimming with about 80 other people at Wangi Falls an hour south of Darwin when the “pretty terrifying experience” unfolded.

“My family and children were swimming in the water when people started yelling for everyone to get out,” she said.

“We formed a circle together to make sure we all made it out of the water safely as a group, especially the children,” she said.
