Launceston-born hip-hop artist Lachy Hamill is capturing the attention of Tasmanians with his catchy new rap called the ‘Hobart Funk’.
The Hobart Funk includes references to kunanyi/Mt Wellington, Hobart nightlife and even Redline buses.
In an interview with ABC Mornings, Hamill, who moved from Launceston to Hobart to pursue music studies at uni – said he wanted to share his love for the city in a song.
Hamill shed light on the often-underestimated Tasmanian music scene, telling ABC his collaboration with various Tasmanian hip-hop artists and performers has played a significant role in shaping his journey.

“The scene down here is massive,” he said.
Lachy recently wrapped up working on a production album, where he produced all the beats and aimed to feature as many local rappers as possible.
The result? An impressive lineup of 60+ Tasmanian artists all together for the ‘Apple Isle Style’ – which he says will be released soon.
