The bronze Tasmanian tiger statues that were removed from the Brisbane Street mall in Launceston have been relocated to Civic Square.

Most of the thylacines have been installed in flower beds, while one has been placed on the grassed area for visitors to get up close.

The council moved the statues out of the mall in March due to concerns that they were a tripping hazard for pedestrians.

Stencilled thylacine footprints and facts have also been added to their new Civic Square home to engage and educate visitors.

Installation of the statues began on September 1 and is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
