The colours and name of Tasmania’s AFL team will be unveiled at the beginning of the next season, the new club board have announced.
With the name ‘Devils,’ currently used by Tasmania’s youth teams, being a popular choice, the public will have the opportunity to participate in determining the team’s appearance and nickname.
The team’s emblem, song and memberships will be finalised and launched around March 2024, with major merchandise and foundation memberships available at the start of the next Football season.
The board is also prioritising the development of the club’s business plan, which is expected to be completed by Christmas.
The team aspires to draw inspiration from the All Blacks rugby union side and the state’s NBL JackJumpers franchise.
Board Chairperson Grant O’Brien said the construction of the Macquarie Point stadium remains their top priority.
“Without a stadium, there is no team,” O’Brien said.
“There is work to be done. There are minds to be changed. There is an imperative for us to deliver the stadium It is the role of the board to do that.”
“One of the first subcommittees will be aimed at that, so the board has got a direct focus on that.”
“We have got many other tasks to perform, but building the infrastructure and ensuring that is in place in time is going to be a big focus for us.”
