Tasmanian company Sea Forest has been recognised as one of the world’s most innovative companies of 2024.

The business based out of Triabunna on the state’s east coast is renowned for its groundbreaking seaweed-based livestock feed, which effectively reduces greenhouse gas emissions from sheep and cattle.

The title was awarded by global business publication Fast Company alongside other notable winners including AI chip developer Nvidia, OpenAI and Google.

“Sea Forest is proud to be included in this global initiative. This recognition from Fast Company underscores the potential of Australian scientific advancements and innovation in agriculture to contribute to global methane mitigation efforts,” Sea Forest CEO Sam Elsom said.

The product can cut methane gas emissions from sheep and cattle by up to 90% when consumed as part of an animal’s diet.

Last last year, the business was recognised in the Earthshot Prize awards, launched three years prior in 2020 by Prince William and The Royal Foundation.

Leaders from the most innovative companies will travel to New York for a summit and gala in May.
