TasNetworks is searching for its next group of apprentices as the state-owned electricity network ramps up for a major infrastructure overhaul.
Applications opened on Saturday for the 2027 intake, with roles available across Tasmania in a range of electrical and trade disciplines.
The recruitment drive will run for one month before closing on August 31.
Much of Tasmania’s electricity network was built between the 1950s and 1980s and is nearing the end of its working life.
TasNetworks is increasing investment to replace ageing equipment and strengthen the network against more severe weather, including bushfires, storms and flooding.
Acting executive people and stakeholder Jo Turfrey said investing in infrastructure also meant investing in the people who would deliver it.
“The electricity network is evolving and so are the skills needed to build and maintain it,” Turfrey said.
“These apprentices won’t simply be learning a trade. They’ll be helping build the network that Tasmanians will rely on for decades to come.”

Successful applicants will earn while they learn, with a nine-day fortnight and competitive pay.
Apprentices complete nationally recognised qualifications while gaining hands-on experience alongside experienced tradespeople on major infrastructure projects.
Distribution lineworker apprentice Ethan Jackson said the variety of work was a highlight.
“It’s a new, fresh start to new worksite every day … You work as a team. We work in paddocks, we work beside beaches, rivers, lakes and mountains,” Jackson said.
TasNetworks runs one of Tasmania’s largest apprenticeship programs and was named Australia’s Large Employer of the Year at the 2025 Australian Training Awards.
