The wild winds battering Tasmania have kept State Emergency Service (SES) crews flat out, responding to a 68 calls for help across the state on Friday.
SES boss Mick Lowe praised the tireless efforts of the volunteer crews, who are still on standby to help out as the wild weather continues.
“Requests for assistance have come in from across the state, with 23 in Southern Region, 15 in Northern Region and 28 in Northwest Region,” he said.
“There has also been reports of fallen trees and powerlines which have impacted road access.”
A severe weather warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology remains in place with damaging winds expected to ease on Friday evening.
“With damaging winds continuing it’s important that people keep up to date with the weather forecast and warnings and be prepared to keep safe,” Lowe said.
“If you’re driving on the roads, slow down, and be alert for fallen trees, hazards and debris.”
“Our SES crews remain ready to help. Their assistance can be requested by calling 132 500.”
