A group of beekeeping women from around the world have broken a world record by posting “the most photos of women beekeeping uploaded in 24 hours.”
The challenge was started by Anita Long and Jenni McLeod from the Richmond-based Sister Hives beekeeping initiative in an effort to promote and support female beekeepers.
Over 1,300 photos were uploaded to social media in just 24 hours, with the hashtag #BeekeepingWorldRecord generating a buzz on social media with 2.8 million impressions in just one day.
Photos were uploaded from 25 countries, with women from the Europe, Mongolia, Czechoslovakia and Asia all taking part.
It even featured a Ukrainian beekeeper in a war zone and a mother-daughter duo behind the sole female beekeeping business in Pakistan.
The event not only broke the digital world record but also set a live event record for the “Most Women Beekeeping at a Live Event” with over 100 attendees at their Richmond beekeeping event on Saturday.
