Tasmanian boaters and watercraft users are being urged to take extreme caution on the water ahead of the upcoming long weekends.
MAST, the organization in charge of boating safety, say they have received multiple complaints about poor boat ramp etiquette and is urging all users to follow safety rules and observe boat ramp etiquette.
MAST CEO Lia Morris warns that the upcoming long weekend will see an “explosion” of boat ramp use across the state and is urging all boaters to follow safety tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable time on the water.
Morris emphasizes the importance of being considerate of others, reminding boaters to observe the 5-knot rules around boat ramps, beaches and swimmers, and to be mindful of alcohol consumption while boating.

Morris stresses, “the message from MAST is straightforward: ‘Go Easy on the Drink’ – 0.05 is the limit – and ‘if you’re the skipper, you’re responsible.”
With summer in full swing, it’s important to take the necessary precautions to stay safe on the water.
Remember to check the weather, safety equipment, fuel, and to avoid boating alone. If in doubt, don’t go out and make the right decisions to ensure a safe and enjoyable time on the water.
