Tassie swimmers complete chilly 14km Lake St Clair swim

Tasmanian swimmers Rod Watkins and Samantha Poulsen tackled an ‘incredible’ challenge last weekend, completing a 14km swim in Lake St Clair – Australia’s deepest lake!

Located in the Cradle Mountain National Park, Lake St Clair is 215 meters deep, 14 km long and boasts epic views of surrounding mountain ranges.

The duo tackled the challenge on Sunday, entering the chilly 11°C water without their wetsuits at the Narcissus Jetty.

They then completed their 4-hour-long swim at the Visitors Centre, located at the other end of the lake.

The water temperature may have been chilly at first, but it got warmer throughout the day and reached a cozy 16°C.

Despite the tough conditions, Rod and Samantha had a blast during their adventure.

Rod said, “The light winds, sunny day, and amazing support crew made it a sensational day of swimming.”
