A Tassie teenage ‘super surfer’ has made a name for himself after picking up a “surprising” win at an event in Sydney this week.
16-year-old Clifton Beach local James Fullerton shocked the competition and secured the win in the men’s surf race yesterday – despite having less experience than his opponents.
The Hobart teen says surfing at Maroubra Beach is a bit different to his local, with very different conditions.

“I was middle of the pack on the way out but decided to go a bit further to the side on the way in as that’s where I saw the waves breaking a bit higher, and I managed to snag one in.
“It’s a pretty different beach to my local, with very different conditions, so it’s been nice to race in something a bit different, it’s a good experience,” he said.
“I definitely wasn’t expecting to win that one, so I’m pretty stoked with that.”
