A young Tasmanian athlete has received a generous donation that will allow him to represent Australia at the upcoming World Dwarf Games in Germany.
Introduced to basketball by a friend at school, St Virgil’s College student Nayte Ackerley quickly fell in love with the sport.
Making the decision to switch from soccer to basketball, he dedicated himself to honing his skills.
Now, his dedication has paid off as he prepares to join the Australian basketball team for the World Dwarf Games.
Faced with the prospect of high costs for the trip to Germany, Nayte and his family embarked on fundraising efforts, including raffles and other activities.
Fortunately, the Carbine Club, a group dedicated to supporting the dreams of Tassie kids in sports, stepped in to help with the financial strain.
After hearing Nayte’s story, the Carbine Club generously donated over $3,000 to assist with his travel expenses.
While still in high school, Nayte has his sights set on a career as a mechanic.
