A Tasmanian teenager has been charged after allegedly hitting 138km/h and evading police on the Bass Highway, just 33 hours after getting his provisional licence.
The 17-year-old from Wynyard was first detected by police at Doctors Rocks at 8:30pm on Friday.
He was allegedly travelling 38km/h over the 100km/h limit.
When officers moved in to intercept, the driver took off.
About half an hour later, police spotted the car again at Ulverstone, further along the highway.

Road spikes were deployed. The vehicle was stopped and the teenager arrested at the scene.
Tasmania Police said the driver had held his P1 licence for only about 33 hours at the time.
“This was dangerous behaviour that placed the community, the youth himself and responding police officers at serious risk,” police said.
“There is no excuse for this type of driving.”
“Travelling at excessive speed and then attempting to evade police creates an unacceptable risk of serious injury or death.”
The teenager has been charged with evading police and exceeding 100km/h as a P1 provisional licence holder.
He was granted bail on the condition he not drive during the bail period.
Police are asking anyone with information about dangerous driving to call 131 444 or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
