A young P-plater will face court in the coming weeks after a ‘dangerous’ high-speed incident on Bridport Road last night.
Police caught the 19-year-old P2 driver travelling at 156km/h on the highway near George Town around 8:30pm on Sunday.
They say officers pulled the teen over and found him to have a blood-alcohol reading of 0.025, half the legal limit for fully licensed adults – but not for P-platers, who aren’t allowed any alcohol in their system while driving.
He was arrested, charged with various offences, including excessive speed, drink driving and failing to display a visible P-plate.
The teenager was released on bail and is set to appear in court at a later date, but will be without a car for 28 days.
Police are reminding drivers that they are ‘constantly patrolling’ Tasmanian roads and speeds over 45km/h above the limit can lead to other vehicles also being clamped.
