A Saturday night police operation on Hobart’s waterfront has led to the arrest of several individuals, including a teenager found armed with scissors.
The operation involving council officers and liquor inspectors in the Salamanca area was launched to deter anti-social behaviour and promote public safety, Acting Inspector Danny Jackson said.
“During the evening, more than a dozen licensed premises were visited with three licensing infringements issued,” he said.
“Police attended several disturbances with more than fifteen move-on directions issued.”
Several arrests were also made, including a 27-year-old Hobart woman and a 29-year-old Hobart man for outstanding arrest warrants and multiple counts of stealing.
A teenager was arrested and charged under the Youth Justice Act for making threats to a member of the public in Salamanca Square, several counts of stealing, trespass, property damage and breaching court conditions.
Another teenager was taken into custody for allegedly producing scissors in a disturbance on the waterfront at 4:25am.
A man had sustained a minor injury in the incident but left the area before officers arrived.
Police later located the scissors in the teenager’s possession.
“Police remain committed to public safety and ensuring every member of our community can be safe at home, at work and in public spaces,” Jackson said.
“We will continue to target those people who choose to do the wrong thing in our community.”
