Tesla Cybertruck electric ute spotted in Hobart as it makes its Tasmanian debut

The only Tesla Cybertruck in Australia has made its way to Tasmania, turning heads along the state’s highways as it was trucked into Hobart over the weekend.

The futuristic all-electric ute, built by Elon Musk’s company Tesla, is yet to receive certification for Australian roads, leaving this left-hand-drive demo vehicle to embark on a nationwide tour.

The Cybertruck was proudly on display at Tasmanian shipbuilder INCAT this morning, before it spends the rest of the week inside the Hobart Tesla Showroom.

INCAT spokesperson Tom Cooper said bringing the Cybertruck to the INCAT shipyard was about showcasing the “best in innovation and engineering.”

“Tesla’s obviously leading the way in terms of sustainable road transportation and INCAT is leading the charge in sustainable maritime transportation,” Cooper said.

“We’re currently building the world’s largest electric ferry and, as you can see by the side of [this] truck, it really is at the cutting edge of road transportation.”

The Cybertruck was seen parked up against INCAT’s new 130-meter-long Hully 96 vessel this morning, which is bound for a route between Buenos Aires and Uruguay.

Powered entirely by electricity, the ferry will be equipped with over 400 tons of battery storage and is expected to be launched in May 2025.

Cooper said the shipbuilder had “been looking to do something with Tesla for a while” and it was great to team up with the car company to showcase the future of zero-emission transport to their staff and stakeholders.

The Cybertruck, known for its angular and unconventional design, has sparked both admiration and criticism since its unveiling in 2019.

While Tesla has yet to announce a release date for the Cybertruck in Australia, the company has begun production in the United States.

Pulse understands there has been significant interest in the Cybertruck within Tasmania, with many Tasmanians already having placed pre-orders for the vehicle.
