The Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) has been accused by the United Firefighters Union of Australia of poor work health and safety conditions, including mouldy breathing apparatus equipment and unroadworthy vehicles.
Since August 2022, the TFS has received 11 provisional improvement notices related to various health and safety issues.
TFS Chief Officer Dermot Barry stated that the organization encourages the reporting of hazards and continuously reviews and improves work health and safety, including through the recent approval of a revised WHS Governance Model.

However, the Tasmania Branch of the United Firefighters Union claims that the TFS has implemented the new model unilaterally and without proper consultation.
The union also claims that the new processes have not been successful.
