The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra has announced its 2024 expanded concert season, featuring collaborations with local musicians, intimate chamber sessions and live pub-style gigs.
With the aim of creating a concert season ‘for all Tasmanians’, Chief Executive Officer Caroline Sharpen said she hoped every performance would be a “special, emotion-filled adventure”.
“The 2024 season includes unique events like a concert of video game music and high-energy performances with home-grown superstars The Wolfe Brothers, who will join the full orchestra in Hobart and Launceston,” Sharpen said.
Tom and Nick Wolfe will play songs from their 10-year catalogue and new releases alongside the TSO, a collaboration that has been in the works ‘for years’ and will showcase a blend of country and classical music.
Other musical events include the Animal Kingdom family concert, six unique chamber music experiences at Woolmers Estate in Longford, the 6pm early-evening short-format and Obscura series.
TSO live sessions will also take to stages in craft breweries, sheds and other non-traditional venues around the state in addition to the full orchestra Federation Concert Hall series.
Minister for the Arts Madeleine Ogilvie said the State Government has invested over $2.3 million in funding in the “cultural sensation that is the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra” in just this financial year alone.
“As we get set to launch the 75th season of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanians have some fabulous events to look forward to in this year’s program,” Ogilvie said.
“Audiences will be able to see this iconic country music duo join the full orchestra in both Hobart and Launceston.”
Subscription tickets and early sign-up information for the 2024 season are available on the TSO website.
