Thick smoke blankets Bridgewater after house goes up in flames

UPDATE – 4PM:
Police say the sole occupant of the residence escaped uninjured.

The road has reopened, and authorities say there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances.

EARLIER:
Thick smoke can be seen across Hobart’s northern suburbs this afternoon after a Bridgewater house went up in flames.

The Tasmania Fire Service say Sorell Street is currently closed while crews work to contain the fire.

Firefighters arrived to find the fire “going well” and are in the process of bringing it under control.

All people have been evacuated from the home, while the cause is yet to be identified.
