A thunderstorm is heading towards Hobart this afternoon as lightning strikes move across the state’s West Coast and Central Highlands.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) predicted a thunderstorm for the late afternoon and early evening, with the first signs of the storm appearing in the capital just before 5pm.

Lightning strikes have been detected near Queenstown, Strahan and New Norfolk in the past hour as the storm moves through the Derwent Valley towards Hobart.
Showers are forecast for the next few days, with a cloudy day and medium chance of rain predicted for Monday.
The storms come after a heatwave that sent maximum temperatures into the mid to high twenties and low thirties on Saturday.
