After multiple days of 30-degree-weather, Tasmanians are being urged to prepare for fire and potential heavy rain tonight.
Authorities say it’s “imperative that the community are vigilant” as thunderstorms and strong winds make their way to the state later today.
Tasmania Fire Service Chief Officer Dermot Barry said the current weather conditions, combined with a dry landscape, means that any fires lit today could spread easily and be dangerous and difficult to control.
“Tasmania Fire Service has been preparing with partner agencies and we have firefighters, aircraft, and Incident Management Teams on standby ready to respond to any fires that may start today, but we need the community to assist us.”

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Meteorology are forecasting the potential for high rainfall levels later today, with the SES warning people to prepare for changing weather conditions.
“With a hot day today and the Bureau of Meteorology forecasting variable rainfall levels for tonight, Tasmania SES are urging people to be aware of the weather situation in their area, to prepare accordingly and be safe,” said Tasmania SES Executive Director Mick Lowe.
“Tasmania SES is prepared with resources on standby ready to assist the community if the need arises as the conditions change, and it’s important we are all aware of our surroundings and warnings and alerts in place in our areas.”
