Variety Tasmania will host two Christmas carol events on the same day at Tolosa Park in Glenorchy on December 19, offering families a daytime sing-along for younger children and an evening celebration under the stars.
Variety Kids Carols returns for a second year, with gates opening at 10am and the event running from 11am to 12:15pm.
Variety Carols by Candlelight follows in the evening, with gates opening at 6:30pm and performances starting at 8pm.
Variety Tasmania CEO Mohammad Aldergham said combining both events gives families more ways to enjoy the season.

“Last year showed us just how much families loved having a carols experience created especially for younger children, alongside the Carols by Candlelight that has become such a popular part of Christmas in Hobart,” he said.
“This year we’re bringing them both back, giving families the choice of an early afternoon sing-along, a big night under the stars or, better yet, both.”

John Xintavelonis of John X Presents said the two events would offer very different experiences.
“Kids Carols is all about the little ones,” he said.
He said the afternoon event would feature the Glenorchy City Brass Band and a visit from Santa.
The evening show will be hosted by Xintavelonis and 7HOFM’s Sarah Morrison, with Tasmanian performers backed by Matt Ives and his Big Band.

Hobart Airport is returning as major partner for Variety Kids Carols.
Hobart Airport Chief Operations Officer Matt Cocker said the airport was delighted to continue its support.
“Connecting communities is at the heart of what we do at Hobart Airport, so we’re delighted to again support an event that brings families together at such a special time of year,” he said.
Glenorchy City Council Mayor Sue Hickey said both events bring the community together “in such a joyful way”.

Tickets for Kids Carols are $10 for those over 15 and $5 for children aged five to 15, with under-fives free.
Carols by Candlelight tickets are $15 per person, with children under 15 free.
Proceeds support Variety’s work with Tasmanian children living with disability, illness or disadvantage.
