The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was quickly deployed to the scene, where the crew located the group of out-of-state visitors in a remote and steep river valley.

One member of the group, a woman in her seventies, had sustained a serious leg injury and had to be airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital for emergency treatment.

Tasmania Police Acting Sergeant Callum Herbert from Police Search and Rescue stated that the group had planned their excursion in advance and had brought the appropriate equipment, but unfortunately an injury occurred and they had to activate their emergency beacon.

Despite the challenging terrain, the remaining members of the group intend to continue their journey.
