Tradies’ vehicles targeted by alleged $20,000 Launceston power tool thief

A Launceston man accused of stealing around $20,000 worth of power tools from tradies’ vehicles across the city has been charged.

The 38-year-old from Riverside will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court at a later date on multiple burglary charges.

Police said the majority of the tools were taken from trade vehicles parked in public spaces.

While some of the stolen property has been returned to their owners, a “large quantity” remains unidentified.

“To deter thieves and help police return property, owners should mark power tools with identifying features,” a spokesperson said.

“Anyone with information in relation to the burglaries, or who has been offered cheap tools, is also urged to contact Launceston CIB on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.”
