A trainee police officer in southern Tasmania has been stood down after being charged with stealing.
The 24-year-old male trainee constable was charged with one count of stealing this week following an investigation by Tasmania Police’s Professional Standards Command.

The charge relates to an alleged recent stealing incident.
Tasmania Police say the officer has been stood down from duty effective immediately.
The matter is scheduled to be heard in the Hobart Magistrates Court on August 25.

A Tasmania Police spokesperson said it is “not appropriate to make any further comment given the matter is now before the court.”
