A woman participating in a fly fishing competition in Tasmania has had a lucky escape after being rescued from the Meander River yesterday.
The 63-year-old, who was participating in a Fly Fishing Competition near Jackey’s Marsh, had been walking up the river when she accidentally stepped off a rock, causing another rock to fall and pin her leg.
Despite the efforts of those around her, the woman was trapped for hours and unable to move.
Eventually, an EPIRB was activated, and emergency services quickly arrived on the scene.
Multiple agencies, including Ambulance Tasmania, Tasmania Fire Service, State Emergency Service and Tasmania Police, worked together to free the woman from the entrapment.

Authorities say access to the scene was difficult, as it was only accessible via a bush track around 1-2 kilometres from the river.
After being freed from the rocks, the woman was transported across the river by stretcher with the help of SES, TFS volunteers and fellow fishers.
A search and rescue helicopter then airlifted her to the Launceston General Hospital for further medical treatment.
Fortunately, the woman’s injuries were not considered serious, and she is expected to make a full recovery.
