Travellers Pack Hobart Airport On New Year’s Day

Thousands of passengers have packed Hobart Airport on New Year’s Day, with long lines and overcrowding causing delays for many travellers starting their 2023 vacations.

The security checkpoint has a large queue, with some travellers complaining of waits of up to 30 minutes – while the security line extends to the airport cafe and into the baggage collection area at the opposite side of the terminal.

More than 60 flights are scheduled to arrive and depart from the airport on Sunday, including an international flight from Air New Zealand that arrived early.

Hobart Airport reports that the early arrival of the Air New Zealand flight coincided with three domestic flights arriving at the same time, causing delays in processing the domestic inbound passengers.

Between 8,500 and 8,800 people are expected to pass through the terminal today, and travellers are advised to plan ahead for busy times.
