The Tasmanian trucking community is remembering Michael “Macca” McCarthy, a beloved truck driver, as a hardworking “true West Coast legend” following his death on Thursday morning.
In a social media post, De Bruny’s Transport paid tribute to McCarthy, who had been with the company for over 30 years in two different stints.
The post described McCarthy’s work, which included carting concentrate from the mine to Melba Flats and moving general freight and doing the wharf run.
Friends also paid tribute to McCarthy, with one calling him a “real funny bugger and a great mentor” and another saying they loved his “old stories.”
De Bruyn’s Transport expressed its condolences and prayers to McCarthy’s family and friends.
