More than 1,200 homes and businesses across Burnie are without power tonight after a truck crashed into a power pole on the Bass Highway.

The incident at Parklands has forced the closure of both westbound lanes of the Bass Highway overnight.

TasNetworks crews are expected to work through the night to repair extensive damage.

One person has been taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries following the crash.

Tasmania Police said westbound traffic is being diverted at West Park Grove onto Futuna Avenue and Brickport Road until further notice.

The outage is affecting residents in Burnie, Camdale, Cooee, East Cam, Ocean Vista, Park Grove and Somerset.

TasNetworks said the restoration time remains uncertain.
