A truck has been seized and its driver is assisting police with their investigation after the death of a 19-year-old on the Brooker Highway at Montrose in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The development comes after police yesterday received autopsy results suggesting the teenage boy had been struck by a vehicle.
Inspector Jason Klug said several people had come forward since their call for assistance.
“Following receipt of the autopsy report yesterday which suggested the man was likely struck by a vehicle, police put out a call for public information and have since spoken to a truck driver who is assisting with our enquiries,” Klug said.

Initial findings indicate the young man may have been in a vulnerable position on the roadside before the collision occurred.
“While it remains early in our investigation, at this stage information suggests the young man was squatting on the roadside, wearing dark clothing in an unlit area of the highway when he was not seen by the driver and struck by the truck,” Klug said.

Police have seized the truck believed to be involved in the incident along with several pieces of CCTV footage.
These items will undergo forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Klug expressed gratitude to community members who responded to the appeal for information.
“We’d like to thank members of our community who responded to our call for information – assistance from the public is vital in assisting with police investigations,” he said.
Authorities are continuing to seek information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant details.
