An Australia Day “wounding incident” in the Launceston CBD that left a teenager with injuries has led to charges being laid against two teenage boys.
Police say several callers alerted them to the alleged disturbance involving a group of youths on Brisbane Street at around 10:20pm on Friday night.
The victim, a 17-year-old, later took themselves to the Launceston General Hospital with non-life threatening injures sustained during the incident.
Following investigations, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old were both taken into custody.
The 17-year-old was granted bail after appearing in the Launceston Magistrates Court on Saturday, while the 15-year-old appeared in court today.
“Investigations have determined that the incident was targeted and there is no threat to the public,” police said.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has captured footage, is urged to call 131 444 or to report it anonymously via Crime Stoppers Tasmania.”
