Two teenage men have been pulled from the water at a beach on the north-east coast of Tasmania after they got into trouble while swimming.
The incident unfolded at Goftons Beach in Bridport around 4pm on New Year’s Day.
Police and other emergency services, including Surf Life Saving Tasmania, rushed to the scene after receiving reports that the pair were “experiencing difficulty” in the water.
The boys were safely retrieved from the water by Surf Life Saving Tasmania members and treated by paramedics at the scene.
Authorities are using the close call as a timely reminder to beachgoers to always swim between the flags at patrolled beaches, pay attention to safety signs and supervise children closely around water.
They also advise people to be aware of their surroundings and check the weather and water conditions before heading out.
