More than 1,500 seats from UTAS Stadium have been snapped up by 15 local sporting clubs across northern Tasmania.

The seats were removed as part of the stadium’s $130 million redevelopment and will now provide upgraded facilities for grassroots sporting clubs.

Children and Youth Minister Jo Palmer said the initiative delivers practical benefits while promoting sustainability.

“Approximately 1,500 seats have now been collected by the community clubs, with the seating to be installed at their home grounds to support players, volunteers, staff, supporters and spectators at local events,” Palmer said.

She said every club that applied got what they wanted.

“Rather than being discarded, these seats will continue to be used for many years to come, helping clubs improve their facilities and creating more comfortable and enjoyable environments for participants and supporters.”

Federal Labor Member for Bass Jess Teesdale said the move shows how major infrastructure projects can benefit local communities.

“It’s a great example of governments working together to deliver lasting benefits for northern Tasmanian communities,” Teesdale said.

“This shows how major infrastructure projects can deliver real, lasting benefits beyond the stadium, strengthening local clubs and supporting community sport across northern Tasmania.”

Stadiums Tasmania CEO James Avery said the organisation was pleased to help community clubs enhance their venues.

“This is a great outcome for community sport, enabling these grassroots organisations to enhance their venues while also delivering important sustainability outcomes,” Avery said.

The clubs will install their new seating over the coming months. North Launceston Bowls Club received the largest allocation with 345 seats, while Launceston Football Club got 200 seats.
