The Chief of Staff to Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff has resigned after serving for more than 16 years in government and opposition.
Vanessa Field took the top job on Rockliff’s team in 2019 following a series of senior political roles, including Director of Communications and Media for the Tasmanian Government.
Announcing her resignation on Wednesday, Premier Rockliff described Vanessa as a “source of sound advice and guidance”.
“Vanessa has made the decision not to accept a new contract for this term of Government and I respect that decision,” he said.
“I am deeply appreciative of the support she has provided me with throughout my time as Premier and Minister.”
Field, in a statement, stated that she felt the ‘time was right’ to explore new opportunities but reiterated her full support for Rockliff and his administration.
“I can move forward knowing I have played a key role in making a difference for Tasmanians,” she said.
“I have the deepest admiration for Jeremy, his resilience, his selfless nature and his unwavering commitment to Tasmanians.”
“I believe Jeremy is a great Premier and is just getting started.”
Current Principal Adviser Ned Whitehouse has been appointed as the incoming Chief of Staff to the Premier.
The resignation comes days after the head of Tasmania’s State Service, Jenny Gale, quit.
