Head of Tasmania’s state service Jenny Gale steps down

The head of Tasmania’s state service, Jenny Gale, has resigned just days on from the state election.

In a statement on Monday, Premier Jeremy Rockliff confirmed that he had accepted Gale’s resignation as Secretary of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

“Ms Gale has served the people of Tasmania for 45 years across various roles within the state service, including as a Teacher, Secretary of the Department of Education and most recently as the Head of the State Service where she led 35,000 public servants,” he said.

“Ms Gale was awarded the Public Service Medal (PSM) for her outstanding public service during the COVID-19 Pandemic and I thank her for her leadership throughout this period.”

The Premier commended Gale for her “significant contribution” to the Tasmanian public service and the wider Tasmanian community throughout her lengthy career.

“I wish her well as she enters her retirement and a new phase of her life,” Rockliff said.

A new secretary will be appointed in the near future.
