Tasmanians are being called on to jump on stationary bikes for charity as Variety Tasmania launches its fifth annual Spin4Kids challenge.

The high-energy five-hour cycling marathon will take place on July 4 during the Variety Monster Book Fair at PW1, with organisers hoping to smash last year’s fundraising record.

In 2025, teams raised more than $40,000 to support children across Tasmania.

This year’s target is $50,000 as demand for assistance grows amid cost-of-living pressures.

“We’re calling on workplaces, clubs and groups of mates to get behind this challenge and ride for a reason,” Variety Tasmania CEO Mohammad Aldergham said.

“Not only is it a fun way to build team spirit, it’s also a chance to make a real difference in the lives of Tassie kids who need it most.”

Last year alone, Variety Tasmania helped more than 26,000 children across the state through grants, programs and life-changing opportunities.

Aldergham said community fundraising initiatives like Spin4Kids are increasingly vital as families struggle with rising living costs.

“We know many families are doing it tough right now,” he said.

“Every dollar raised helps us continue funding programs that make a real impact including our grants program, Variety Kids Sports Days, Creative Arts Program and Motor Mouth Camp.”

The event partners with All Aerobics Fitness, who will keep teams motivated with upbeat instructors and energising playlists throughout the day.

“All Aerobics is proud to be part of Variety Spin4Kids,” Guy from All Aerobics Fitness said.

“We’ve put together some great training tips to help teams prepare and knowing it’s all for such a worthwhile cause makes the challenge even more rewarding.”

Teams are encouraged to dress up and adopt fun themes for the “FUN’draising” event, which runs alongside the book fair featuring bubbles, costumes, face painting and book browsing.
