The Very Short Film Festival is heading to Hobart this weekend for a three-day celebration of bold storytelling and emerging filmmakers at the State Cinema in North Hobart.
The premiere weekend will feature screenings, filmmaker Q&As, awards and special events showcasing short films from across Australia and beyond.
The headline event is Saturday’s National Premiere and Awards Night, where the 2026 winners will be announced.
Actor and producer Marta Dusseldorp will present the VSFF Ambassador Award during the ceremony, which runs from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.

The weekend kicks off on Friday with an opening night showcase of standout films from the 2026 program, running from 7pm to 9pm.
A dedicated Tasmanian spotlight will also feature on Friday, celebrating local filmmakers who’ve been part of the festival over the years.

Saturday’s program starts at midday with a junior premiere, including screenings, awards and a live Q&A celebrating the next generation of filmmakers.
A speed date filmmaker meet-up follows from 2:30pm to 3:30pm, giving filmmakers and creatives a relaxed chance to connect.
After the National Premiere wraps up on Saturday night, drinks with filmmakers and the wider VSFF community will be held at the Crescent Hotel from around 9:30pm.
The festival closes on Sunday with a screening of award-winning shorts and crowd favourites from 5pm to 6:30pm.

All events are being held at the State Cinema on Elizabeth Street in North Hobart.
