A small community in the Central Highlands is on alert after a bushfire broke out a short time ago.

An advice warning has been issued for Jones River Road and the Derwent River area at Ellendale, urging locals to monitor the conditions and check their bushfire plan.

The TFS say the fire is travelling in a south-westerly direction, however there is no immediate threat.

Well prepared homes are expected to be defendable in these conditions.

Monitor conditions, and if they get more dangerous, and you are not well prepared, plan to go to a safer place.

Temperatures have exceeded 30 degrees in the area, with today officially the hottest day in Tasmania this year.
