A team of talented Tasmanian authorities completed a ‘major rescue’ operation in the treacherous waters of the Bass Strait earlier this week.
The joint operation saw rescue crews battle 40 knot winds and a three-metre swell to extract a passenger from a cruise ship who was suffering a serious medical condition on Tuesday.
Despite the significant weather-related challenges, Intensive Care Flight Paramedics were winched down to the ship, in a rescue officials say was “not for the faint hearted”.
The person was safely winched back to the helicopter and transported to hospital.
