Water restrictions will be lifted across most of Tasmania at midnight tonight after last week’s heavy rain replenished rivers and dams.
TasWater confirmed the restrictions would end in Orford and Triabunna, Oatlands, Scamander and Whitemark.
Lady Barron on Flinders Island will stay on stage one restrictions until further notice while the utility keeps monitoring local conditions.
TasWater’s Liz Hafner said the rain had brought rivers flowing and dam storage back to strong levels.
“The recent rain has been extremely welcome and improvements to supply levels in most of our catchments have had significant improvement,” Hafner said.

The downpour also caused problems at some water treatment plants.
Hafner said the rain had raised sediment levels and affected the quality of incoming water.
She said the situation had since stabilised. With more wet weather forecast this week, the restrictions could be lifted.
Lady Barron is treated differently because it draws on groundwater bores rather than surface water.
TasWater said its triggers and recovery were measured differently as a result.

Hafner urged residents, visitors and businesses to stay mindful of their water use even after the restrictions ended.
She pointed to forecasts of drier conditions in the coming months.
“We will continue to monitor conditions closely and work with communities to encourage sustainable water use,” Hafner said.
