A bushfire that burned through scrubland on Hobart’s eastern shore has been brought under control after firefighters launched an aerial and ground assault on the blaze.

Emergency crews were called to Sawpit Gully, between Clarendon Vale and Acton Park, about 6:30pm on Tuesday after the vegetation fire broke out.

The Tasmania Fire Service deployed three waterbombing helicopters alongside ground crews from multiple brigades to halt the fire’s spread.

Acting Station Officer Jeremy Hughes said the rapid response had neutralised the threat.

“The fire is now contained and there is no threat to communities,” he said.

“Crews will continue to monitor the area over the coming days to ensure the fire is completely out and will continue to extinguish any hot spots.”

“Some smoke in the area may be visible over the coming days, so residents should not be alarmed.”
