A young woman is fighting for her life in hospital after the car she was driving crashed into a power pole in Tasmania’s north on Wednesday morning.
The Mayfield woman, in her 20s, was flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition following the single-vehicle crash at Sidmouth.
Two passengers in the vehicle suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
Police and emergency services were called to the West Tamar Highway around 9:45am after reports a grey Holden Commodore had hit a power pole.
“Early investigations indicate the [car] was travelling south on the highway when it left the road and crashed into the pole,” police said.
“The West Tamar Highway was closed for several hours as a result of the crash.”
Police said investigations into the cause of the crash were ongoing.
“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash cam footage is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers,” police said.
