Bonorong wildlife supporters have crossed the $100,000 fundraising mark just days after a campaign was launched to raise $2 million for a new, cutting-edge animal hospital.
Generous donors supporting the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary have collectively contributed over $57,000 to the ‘Project RECAP’ campaign, with every dollar to be matched by the Elsie Cameron Foundation up to $1 million.
Among the 280-plus donors from all across the world, many have expressed their deep appreciation for the opportunity to support the ‘exceptionally worthwhile cause’ and say that they ‘couldn’t think of a more deserving campaign’ to contribute to.
“Best of luck, team Bonorong! Have loved watching the wildlife hospital come together, and am super excited to see the next stage. The work you all do is so valuable, and I hope you get all the support you need,” one supporter wrote.
Another said there is “way too many injured [wildlife] on TAS roads every night … Keep up the brilliant work caring for our injured wildlife … Bonorong has led the way in this space for a long time,” they wrote.
“Thank you for everything Bonorong does for our Tassie wildlife.”
Director Greg Irons says he is ‘very thankful’ for the generous donations that will go towards helping over 15,000 animals annually, a number that is only expected to increase in the years ahead.
The funds raised will be used to build a state-of-the-art animal hospital with sterile surgery facilities, an intensive care unit, a recovery room, a quarantine section and a critical care and rescue coordination area.
The new hospital will allow for longer operating hours, enabling wildlife with painful injuries to be treated more promptly.
