Police said the baby was rushed to the Royal Hobart Hospital with minor injuries in the early hours of Monday morning and has since been safely discharged.

“It will be alleged the woman wasn’t known to the child, however was an associate of another person present,” a spokesperson said.

She will face the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at crimestopperstas.com.au,” police said.

“Information can be provided anonymously.”
