An eastern shore woman has put up a sign in Sandfly in the hope of finding a man she saw on a dating app, after accidentally deleting the match instead of keeping it.

Steph Jacobs said she came across the man on Hinge a few nights ago and remembered from his profile that he lived around Sandfly, south of Hobart.

“There’s only one shot, isn’t there? So all the shots you don’t take, you don’t get,” she told Pulse.

“Who doesn’t want to be serenaded by a hot guy?”

The man had posted himself singing on his profile.

The sign she posted on Sandfly Road read “Cute singing Hinge guy I accidentally deleted you + your rose. Say your name at Ampol – Steph”.

Jacobs said that was what stood out to her and that “he wasn’t afraid of being unconventionally cool”.

“You know, he wasn’t trying to be polished or anything and that’s what I liked about it,” she said.

After making the sign, she asked a friend if she wanted to do “something a bit unhinged”. Her friend agreed without asking what it was.

The pair drove to Sandfly and hammered the sign in, choosing a spot where Jacobs thought there was a chance the mystery man would go past.

Jacobs said she wanted to show people not to be “too scared of your fears. If they’re safe ones, just go for it”.

With little time to prepare, she wrote her phone number on a birthday card and left it at the Ampol service station with the hope the Hinge man would call her.

Jacobs said a worker there called it “such a cute thing”.

So far, there has been no word from the man.

“I didn’t expect it to get this far,” Jacobs said.

Her message to others was “don’t be afraid to be yourself”.

“You give it a go,” she said.

“If you can’t, it’s just a bit of a funny thing to have had happen.”
